FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Macon, IL) Saturday night the Midwest Street Stock Championship kicked off the 2018 season at Macon Speedway with the 2nd Annual Dean Garland Classic. Nineteen cars checked in to compete in the 40 lap opener paying $800 to win. This event honoring a great contributor to the Street Stock division through the years did not disappoint.

The night started off with a bang during the first group of HP Machine Qualifiers. Nick Macklin, last years winner of the event came out and broke the track record that had been held since 2009 in the Street Stock division. But that was only the beginning to time trials as in the second group, Jeremy Nichols came out and set an even faster time with a blazing lap of 12.393 seconds. Nichols and Macklin would lead opening ceremonies as they circled the 1/5 mile oval carrying the nation’s colors as the National Anthem was sung.

In heat race action we saw Darrell Dick hold off his son Timmy Dick to take RacingBids.com Heat Race one and lock them into the JAZ Products Dash. STL Motorsport Magazine Heat Race number two was an eventful one as Jeremy Nichols set sail out front until he made hard contact with turn two wall and put him out of the race. Thomasboro, IL driver and Side Bite Designs and Race Wraps Rookie of the Year contender Matt Maier inherited the race lead and went on to win with Josh Griffith in second.

After heat race action we were ready for the JAZ Products Dash that would determine the starting four spots for the 2nd Annual Dean Garland Classic. Matt Maier jumped out to an early race led in the five lap dash. Matt would hold off the veteran Darrell Dick and pick up the pole for the nights forty lap main event. Timmy Dick would finish third and Josh Griffith rounding out the four car field.

This all set the stage for the 2nd Annual Dean Garland Classic. Matt Maier picked the outside line to start the forty lap affair. Matt jumped out to an early lead before the caution flew on lap four. On the restart, it was Timmy Dick who split Maier and Darrell Dick down the back straightaway to take over the top spot.  While all this was going on up front, it was Jeremy Nichols, from the last row, working his way through the field picking off cars one at a time. Timmy Dick held on to the top spot for a majority of the event as Jeremy Nichols made his way into the top five.

After a couple mid and late race cautions, Nichols was able to maneuver his way into the second spot and position himself to go for the win. On the final restart of the night Jeremy was able to get around the 122 of Timmy Dick and would never look back. Jeremy would lead the final fifteen laps and drive into victory lane, picking up the $800 dollar payday and the season opener for the Midwest Street Stock Championship Series.

Nichols would be followed across the line by Timmy Dick, however Dick would later be disqualified for violation of a UMP DIRTcar Stock Car engine rule. Original third place finisher Jerrad Krick was promoted to second, and the rest of the top five was rounded out by Terry Reed, Matt Maier, and Rudy Zaragoza.

The Midwest Street Stock Series will resume action next week at the Charleston Speedway with the Stock Car Shootout paying $1,000 to win this coming Saturday night May 26th.
