FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Lincoln, IL) June 2, 2018 – Friday night was a hot one and the racing action on the track was no different. Riding a wave of momentum to start off the 2018 racing season, Jeremy Nichols of Lovington, IL capitalized on a long green flag run and captured his second Railsplitter 40 at Lincoln Speedway, his second MSSC victory of the season.

The evening started off with Josh Griffith from Charleston, IL picking up the HP Machine Qualifying quick time with a lap of 16.353 seconds, setting the stage for two exciting heat races. In RacingBids.com Heat Race 1, Jeremy Nichols picked up the win in dominating fashion, holding off Nick Macklin by 1.161 seconds. Darrell Dick, Robert Cottom, and Terry Reed would round out the top five. In STL Motorsport Magazine Heat 2 Chris Dick picked up his first MSSC heat race win of the season by 1.880 seconds over Jerrad Krick, 2017 Side Bite Designs and Race Wraps Rookie of the Year Dane Arvin, Justin Crowell, and Sean Leatherman.

Jeremy Nichols remained in top form as he picked up the victory in the JAZ Products Dash by 2.495 seconds over 2017 MSSC Champion Jerrad Krick. Chris Dick, Nick Macklin, Justin Crowell & Darrell Dick rounded out the field that set the lineup for the nights 40 lap feature event.

The 2nd Annual Railslitter 40 was set and the drivers were ready to battle for a $1,000 payday. All eyes were on pole sitter, defending race winner, and MSSC points leader Jeremy Nichols as the race began. Nichols took the early lead and seemed to be in control as he was out to a significant lead.

As mid-race approached the crowd was in for a dandy as veteran driver Darrell Dick asserted himself into the second place and used the bottom groove of the speedway to reel in Nichols, who was starting to show signs of his car going away. Jeremy had to move to the bottom side of the track to try and keep Dick behind him. A late race caution with 10 laps to go set the stage for an exciting finish. Darrell gave Nichols all he could handle as he took the top spot on lap 33 but Jeremy proved to be too much as he took to the top of track and pulled out the victory by 0.453 seconds over Dick at the line. Robert Cottom worked his way up to finish third and MSSC Side Bite Designs and Race Wraps Rookie of the Year point leader Terry Reed finished 4th. The Saldana Racing Products Hard Charger of the race was Josh Griffith, after heat race problems Josh had to start back in the 16th spot and steadily worked his way through the field to round out the top five.

The win was Jeremy Nichols second of the year on the MSSC tour and he picked up the $1,000 payday. Nichols maintains the Series point lead exiting Lincoln over Terry Reed and Darrell Dick, who are tied for the second-place spot. Jerrad Krick sits in fourth and Robert Cottom rounds out the top five in series point standings.

Of the seventeen starting drivers, only two fell out of competition. All fifteen remaining drivers finished on the lead lap and the race was completed in just under twenty-two minutes.

The Midwest Street Stock Championship will be back in action on June 16th for their first visit to The Dirt Oval at Route 66 in Joliet, IL. Also on the card that night is the UMP Late Model Summer Nationals and the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Summer Nationals.
