FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Urbana, IL) July 21, 2018 – On July 20, the Midwest Street Stock Championship made their inaugural trip to the Champaign County Speedway in Urbana, Illinois for the Boulder Designs Chambana 40. Point leader Jeremy Nichols was out to an early lead but Nick Macklin stayed patient and capitalized on a mechanical failure from Nichols to secure the victory.

The night started on a scary note as Josh Griffith would hook the backstretch wall and overturn two times. Josh was OK but forced out of competition for the night.

Rantoul, IL driver Matt Maier started off the competition by setting the fastest time, a lap of 15.297 seconds, in HP Machine Qualifying. Series point leader Jeremy Nichols would grab the victory in RacingBids.com Heat Race 1, veteran driver Darrell Dick picked up STL Motorsport Magazine Heat Race 2, and Nick Macklin was the victor in Dynamic Drivelines Heat Race 2.

The redraw for the JAZ Products Dash worked in favor of Nick Macklin, as he drew the #1 starting position and held on for all five laps and the victory. It was his first JJAZ Products Dash win of the year. He was followed across the finish line by Jeremy Nichols, Matt Maier, Jerrad Krick, Tanner Sullivan, and Darrell Dick.

The Inaugural Boulder Designs Chambana 40 was set and the drivers were ready to battle for a $1,000 payday. All eyes were on outside pole sitter and point’s leader Jeremy Nichols as everyone wanted to see if he would continue his series dominance. On the first lap, disaster struck as veteran driver Darrell Dick and SSide Bite Designs and Race Wraps Rookie of Year point leader Wayne Huffman III made heavy contact with the back stretch wall and the red flag was displayed as the cars were removed from the speedway. As the race restarted, Nichols took the early race lead but on lap 12, Jeremy started to fade and eventually pulled to the infield with a mechanical failure. This gave the race lead over to pole-sitter Nick Macklin.

As last few laps approached the crowd was in for a dandy as veteran driver Jerrad Krick moved into the second place and was beginning to reel in Macklin as they approached lapped traffic. Nick ventured up to the top lane to maneuver lap traffic as Krick used the bottom. With 2 laps to go Krick had pulled side by side with Macklin. As they took the white flag Macklin drove in deep on the topside and used lapped traffic as a pick to extend his lead on Krick on the final circuit. Nick Macklin held on for the feature win, his first on the tour this year and second of his career.

Last year’s series champ Jerrad Krick came home in second. In third we found the Side Bite Designs and Race Wraps Rookie of the Race Jason Maier. The Saldana Racing Products Hard Charger of the race was Don Hilleary who came from an 18th starting spot to finish fourth. Megan Erwin, another Side Bite Designs and Race Wraps Rookie contender came home in the 5th position.

Despite the mechanical failure and DNF, Jeremy Nichols carries a slim 6 point lead in the series championship over Jerrad Krick. Nichols still maintains the lead in HP Machine Fast Time Award standings as well as JAZ Products Dash standings. Terry Reed capitalized on Nichols' misfortune as he assumes the top spot in SSaldana Racing Products Hard Charger Award Standings and Wayne Huffman II maintains his hold on the Side Bite Designs and Race Wraps Rookie of the Year standings.

The Midwest Street Stock Championship will be back in action on August 4th at Farmer City Raceway for the 4th Annual “What Up Dog 40.” Then on August 18th the series will make up the “Dirty 30” at Peoria Speedway. The original date was rained out back on July 14th.
