FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Peoria, IL) Aug 18, 2018 – It looked as if we would have a new winner in Midwest Street Stock Championship competition Saturday night in the Dirty 30 at Peoria Speedway. Robert Cottom looked strong all night and was out to an early lead but it was short-lived. An oil leak sidelined the local favorite and Jeremy Nichols was able to capitalize on the opportunity and hold on for the victory.

Cottom came into the night as the local favorite at his home track. The UMP National points leader started off strong, setting fast time in HP Machine Qualifying with a lap of 14.396. In RacingBids.com Heat Race #1 we saw Lance Evans hold off series points leader Jeremy Nichols to win the eight lap race. It was Lance’s second heat win of the year on the MSSC tour. Cottom continued the momentum as he picked up STL Motorsport Magazine heat race number two in dominating fashion.

Cottom continued his dominating night as he captured the JAZ Products Dash over current JAZ Products Dash Points Leader Jeremy Nichols, who came home second. Matt Maier, Jason Maier, Lance Evans, and Jerrad Krick rounded out the field.

As the field pulled on to the track for the Dirty 30, all eyes were on pole sitter and local favorite Robert Cottom. Robert jumped out to an early race lead over series points leader Jeremy Nichols and looked to be on his way to a possible feature win. However, it wasn't meant to be. A caution came out with five laps completed and Cottom pulled his #1 machine to the infield with a crack in the oil pan, ending his night early and in disappointment. Jeremy Nichols would inherit the race lead and would maintain it as Jerrad Krick and Matt Maier had the battle of the night for the runner up spot. Lap after lap Krick and Maier ran side by side trying to assert themselves into the second spot. On the final restart Krick made a serious run at Nichols and nearly took the race lead away from Nichols. Jeremy would hold on and capture his fifth feature event of the year on the MSSC tour. Jerrad Krick came home in the runner-up spot and Matt Maier rounded out the podium in third. Jason Maier came home fourth and Lance Evans out of Westville, IL rounded out the top five.

The win was Jeremy’s fifth of the year on the MSSC tour and he picked up the $1,000 payday. Jeremy Nichols was able to maintain his point lead out of Peoria with second place in points Krick finishing in second. Wayne Huffman continues to lead the Side Bite Designs and Race WrapsRookie of the Year points after his sixth place finish.

The Midwest Street Stock Championship will be back in action next Friday night August 24th at Jacksonville Speedway for the James “Bubba” Grant Memorial. Saturday September 1st the Series will be back to the Peoria Speedway for a Labor Day special event, the 50 lap River City Rumble.
