(Jacksonville, IL) – The Midwest Street Stock Championship invaded Jacksonville Speedway Friday night for the James “Bubba” Grant Memorial. The series joined the Powri Midgets and MOWA Sprint Cars during the Herb Barlow Memorial. Jeremy Nichols entered into the weekend with a narrow point lead over defending Series Champ Jarred Krick. 26 Street Stocks checked in before hot laps began all eyes set on taking home the $1,000 top prize in the event honoring the late James Grant.

The track at Jacksonville appeared to be a fast one as HP Machine Qualifying got underway. In session #1 Josh Griffith broke the track record with a lap of 14.433 seconds, the track record was held by Greg Osman from 2013. But that was just a preview of things to come as defending series champ Jerrad Krick would lay down a lap even faster at 14.157 seconds setting the track record.

Three heat races would determine those who would participate in the JAZ Products Dash and help set the field for the night’s main event. The top 2 from each heat would transfer to the night’s dash event. In RacingBids.com Heat Race #1 we saw Josh Griffith hold off a hard charging Nick Macklin to win the heat race #1. Nick started back in the 8 th position. Heat race #2 sponsored by STL Motorsport Magazine went to Matt Maier overtaking the pole sitter Terry Reed. In Dynamic Drivelines Heat #3 Jerrad Krick ran away with the heat win that saw point’s leader Jeremy Nichols receive heavy front end damage and not finish.

The top 2 finishers from each heat were locked into the JAZ Products Dash. The five lap dash would determine the night’s starting order for the first three rows of the night’s main event. Matt Maier started on the pole of the JAZ Products Dash and he held the lead the whole way to victory. Jerrad Krick came home 2nd, Nick Macklin 3rd, Josh Griffith 4th, Darrell Dick 5th, and Terry Reed 6th.

The first three rows were set. The field of 24 MSSC Street Stocks were ready to battle for $1,000 payday. All eyes were on the front row as Matt Maier and Jerrad Krick had set the pace throughout the night at Jacksonville. The feature event plagued by several cautions kept everyone on their toes as the plot seemed to turn at each lap. Maier jumped out to an early race lead and looked to be the one to beat. On one the first cautions of the night the crowd saw the series point leader Jeremy Nichols retire after contact with another car damaged his radiator and ended his night. Before the damage Jeremy was making a move through the pack after his heat race accident. Jerrad Krick sitting in the second position made several attempts to get around race leader Matt Maier as they battled for the top spot on each restart. On the final restart Matt Maier broke and pulled off the track giving the lead over to Krick for the final 2 circuits. Jerrad went on to win his first feature event of the year on the MSSC tour. Terry Reed came home runner up and Robert Cottom rounded out the podium in 3rd . Josh Griffith after an early race flat tire rebounded to come home 4th and Wayne Huffman III finished in the 5th position.

The win was refreshing for Krick after several second place finishes this year on the MSSC tour and he picked up the $1,000 payday. With the misfortune of Jeremy Nichols, Krick was able to take over the points lead out of Jacksonville. Wayne Huffman continues to lead the Rookie of the Year points after his fifth place finish.

The Midwest Street Stock Championship will be back in action next Friday night Sept 21 st at Kankakee Speedway for the Dick Potts Memorial. In three weeks on Saturday Oct 6th the Series will return to the Charleston Speedway for the 5 th Annual UMP Street Stock Fall Nationals. It will be the Series finale for the Midwest Street Stock Championship.
